When installing a flat roof, one of the things that can be overlooked is the underlayments which much be properly secured before the rubber layer is installed. When we rip into damaged flat roofs, something that we often find is that the underlayments were not installed properly and therefore leads to significant damage to the roof if water does penetrate the rubber top layer. The question that comes up is how exactly should the underlayments be installed to ensure that they work properly?

Solution

For every single flat roof our company installs, we follow the same standard in securing the underlayments. As you can see in the photo, there is a multitude of fasteners holding down each piece of insulation. Many companies will simply faster the insulation in each corner, but this makes it very easy for water to leak in around the edges. The way we install these underlayments ensures that this will not happen, and therefore the membrane roof is structurally sound from top to bottom.
