Coastal residents were “strongly advised to evacuate no later than three hours before high tide,” the town said on its website.

Scituate schools were ordered closed Thursday and coastal residents were told if they stayed in their homes, it would be “at your own risk and peril.”

Coastal flooding was expected during three high-tide cycles.

Tides will be extremely high on Thursday at 7:35 p.m. and on Friday at 7:56 a.m. Thursday morning’s high tide came and went without widespread flooding or damage.

A shelter at Scituate High School was scheduled to open at 8 p.m. Wednesday night.

Only emergency vehicles will be allowed to travel on coastal roads in the town during the storm.

North of Boston in Salisbury, emergency management officials ordered oceanfront evacuations Wednesday night. Orders were issued for beach properties on Atlantic and Central avenues and residences from 0 to 400 on North End Boulevard.

Officials said they were hoping to avoid a repeat of the last storm where several people had to be rescued.
